The best practices of Gruppo Mastrotto in the environmental and safety fields have been recognized and awarded with the achievement of the Gold Rated, the maximum score of the international certification LWG, Leather Working Group. The main objective of the Leather Working Group is to develop and maintain a protocol that evaluates environmental compliance and corporate practices regarding sustainability, by promoting improvements in the leather industry.

Gruppo Mastrotto is proud to be the 1st tannery in the world to have obtained for its products the USDA Biobased certification, from the United State Department of Agriculture (USDA), one of the most authoritative sources in terms of sustainability and respect for the environment.

The USDA Biobased label certifies that a product contains bio-renewable material, which is the portion of a product that comes from a renewable source. Using materials from renewable sources helps reduce the use of non-renewable, fossil-based raw materials.

The certification that Gruppo Mastrotto has obtained attests to the high renewability of its hides, which contain up to 90% biobased material. This means that Gruppo Mastrotto leather is renewable up to 90%.

The Blue Angel label certifies the eco-friendly quality of the leather produced by Gruppo Mastrotto. Blue Angel certified products better protect the environment and people’s health, through concrete benefits:

  • limited water consumption in the production process;
  • raw hides and skins must be sourced in a sustainable way;
  • prudent use of resources during use or disposal;
  • the absence of harmful consequences on health and the environment because of their low-emission content;
  • recycle-friendly.

The ISO 14001:2015 certification refers to the international standard that provides organisations with a framework to protect the environment and to respond to the change of the environmental conditions according to the needs of the socio-economic context.
It specifies the requirements for an environmental management system that an organisation can use to enhance its environmental performance with a view to continuous improvement.

Gruppo Mastrotto is a member of Leather Naturally, an association that promotes the use of globally-manufactured sustainable leather and seeks to inspire and inform designers, creators and consumers about its beauty, quality and versatility.
