Caring for leather
Nine tips to keep leather looking its best
Leather is a wonderful material: warm, cosy, exciting. As such, it has to be looked after properly to maintain its beauty and durability. Whether it's used for clothing footwear or furnishing, a few small steps will help prolong their value for as long as possible.
- 01.
Use curtains or covers to reduce the impact of sunlight because direct exposure over a prolonged period of time could cause the colour to change or fage.
- 02.
Avoid contact with aggressive or acid substances, like perfumes, oils or paints, which could damage the surface.
- 03.
Avoid overloading the leather with heavy or sharp objects to prevent scratches or deformations.
- 04.
Remove dirt immediatly to prevent sedimentation.
- 05.
Clean the leather regularly with a woollen, cotton or natural cloth (microfibre cloths are not recommended), using distilled water or specific products. Avoid using solvent-based chemical cleaners like alcohol or petrol.
- 06.
Do a patch test on a hidden part of the leather before using cleansers on the whole object.
- 07.
Avoid rubbing repeatedly in a specific point when cleaning.
- 08.
Contact professional cleaners to remove stubborn stains.
- 09.
Do not soak leather in water, unless it is water-repellent
