Women and Sustainability in the Leather Industry: Chiara Mastrotto at WomenX Impact 2024

At WomenX Impact 2024, Chiara Mastrotto, President of Gruppo Mastrotto, shared her perspective on the female role in the leather industry and fashion sector, presenting the company's experience and projects related to diversity and inclusion.

WomenX Impact is more than just an event; it's a concrete reference point in the world of female empowerment. The fourth edition, held in Milan from November 21 to 23, engaged participants through talks, workshops, and moments of dialogue.

Reflecting on her entrepreneurial journey, Chiara emphasized how professionalism and the ability to step out of the comfort zone have been crucial in guiding a corporate transformation focused on innovation and sustainability, founded on well-defined values.

“Over the years, we have learned to open up, embracing diversity until it became a fundamental element – Chiara explained during her speech – What matters to us is creating an environment ruled by meritocracy, where women, just like men, are judged based on their preparation and can pursue successful paths.”

During her presentation, Chiara shared her vision of how the leather industry and fashion sector must grow in terms of female employment, especially in top positions. This is a path that Gruppo Mastrotto understands clearly, as data demonstrates.

“While at the national level the tannery sector sees only 20% of women employed, Gruppo Mastrotto stands out with an overall percentage of 30% female employees, which reaches over 50% in administrative and managerial roles, with perfect gender equality within the Board of Directors. These numbers are not linked to specific programs but are the result of the company's culture and values”.

Finally, an important message was addressed to young women aspiring to leadership roles. “Be brave, set challenging goals, and continue to learn”.
